The Batwa have been out of the forests of Mgahinga, Ichuya and Bwindi for close to three decades since their eviction, however their cultural identity is still strongly associated with the forest and its natural resources, such as caves, hot springs, rivers, hills, plants and animals

They still use some of the herbs they can find around their settlement and also imitate the dressing they used to have in the forest.

In this picture a Mutwa young woman is wearing a hand made skirt made of forest plants that served as clothing to cover their bodies and keep them warm from the cold forest chills. This special plants can only be got in the forest where they used to stay, however they still imitate it to tell their story during the Batwa trail experience.
