As a result of a crisis that broke out on May 3, 2023 between two communities (Kukis and Meiteis) in the state of Manipur in north-east India, many houses, churches and temples were burnt down, people displaced, raped, tortured and killed.
The video is a snippet that shows individuals/artists/groups from diverse backgrounds stepping forward and voluntarily sharing their time and love with the displaced people in one of the Relief Camps in Imphal, Manipur.
What can an individual/artist do in times of crisis like these?
Although the distress felt by the victims is something we will never be able to fully comprehend, we can only learn and train ourselves to listen deeply to their suffering and stories, and to respond by offering them a warm, safe space to recreate and reconstruct themselves together through love and sharing. Although the process of healing and rehabilitation is in itself long and slow, this small gesture of listening, sharing and accompanying is our first humble step towards the healing process.
