This particular folksong is a short excerpt depicting the lamentation of a heartbroken lover who longs to see his beloved

The lover mentions how his beloved lives in her maiden house, and often spends her time in front of her spinning wheel. He wishes to see her sometime soon but can’t. The lover also mentions roosters from different communities like Maring and Maram that notify him of the dawn of another equally miserable day for him, as he is still not able to talk with his beloved.

Singer Oja Angom Mera is a 100 year old man from Phayeng, Manipur. He used to be an important priest and also a khulakpa (village head).
