For this fragment, we invited Tatiana Aristizábal Zuluaga to join our team and present through her work another important story to better understand the páramo socioecosystem
Her work is an intimate reflection on the páramo as a silent witness and holder of memory of the armed conflict:
El Caballero del Páramo is a research and artistic creation project that explores the relationship between memory, territory, and armed conflict through the páramo ecosystem and moss as a symbol, a living archive, and a material medium. The work takes as its starting point the kidnapping that occurred on the Cali–Buenaventura (Colombia) highway and the intimate and collective experience of the silence that surrounds memories of kidnapping in Colombia.
The project is constructed from a self-referential and intimate perspective, where memory is understood not only as a recollection but as a latent power that inhabits the body, the territory, and that which cannot be put into words. Drawing on personal archives, expanded photography, and newspaper clippings, the work seeks to transform silence and absence into a form of visual language capable of inhabiting trauma and sustaining a memory that has often been forgotten.
Within this research, the páramo emerges as a vessel of memory and a silent witness to violence in Colombia. In this context, moss plays a central role both within Andean ecosystems and in reconstructing the memory of kidnapping, becoming a weaver of stories and a materiality that connects the earth with the self. Building on this, “moss leather” is developed—a biomaterial used as a surface for photographic transfers and as a symbolic container of memory.
