She shared stories about her life before and after joining the Ninghang Batik Workshop — how she went from earning very little to now being able to support herself and her children, gaining confidence and respect in her family.
Yang also reflected on learning batik from her grandmother. She recalled how her grandmother explained the meanings behind each motif. Among them was the Wotuo pattern — the swirling design on their festive attire. Her grandmother told her that this pattern must never be changed, so that those who wear the attire in death will find their way back to their ancestors.
