The girls in M'Hamid Oasis in Morocco collect sounds to begin telling their stories of desert life and culture through recordings and interviews

"I'm recording the way we make bread and song. This is how we make bread. This is how we do it and how we have done it in the past. All women sing when they make bread, and this is about how we have done it from the past to today."

This recording illustrates how some of their water rations are used to make bread. The photo shows a grandmother baking bread in the clay oven of her home, while couscous is prepared inside.

Water is used to prepare all foods, as well as Moroccan tea. Although the M'Hamid oasis continues to suffer from extreme heat and water rations, the inhabitants live with their daily water supplies and provide for their families.
