We walk in the dry riverbed of the Draa Valley in M'Hamid El Ghizlane with students from the Joudour Sahara music program

This river is the longest in Morocco.

The environment is very quiet and we sit on the sand to take time to record. The riverbed has been dry for some time and the community of Joudour Sahara is managing the water crisis in the area through careful water management. The use of wells is not sustainable and desertification is causing rapid salinization of the soil in the desert area.

Together with Sahara Roots and architect Aziza Chaouni, Joudour Sahara is planting trees and installing a multi-purpose water tank for the site.

It's all about fighting desertification, which, while quiet in sound, is disastrous in action, with its extreme heat due to climate change.
